Oh Richler! Oh Quebec!
Richler’s Address of Québec Nationalism in Oh Canada! Oh Quebec!: Requiem for a Divided Country
Jennifer Breaux
About Exhibit
Just as Oh Canada! Oh Quebec! unpacks the immensely complicated relationship between Anglophones and Francophones with humor and criticism, this display will do the same. Items on display may juxtapose Québec nationalism with English-Canadian nationalism, reveal the fears that many Jewish people had with the rise of Québec nationalism, or simply record events like the 1970 Crise d’Octobre—all of which are important topics pertaining to Richler’s book. Regardless of whether or not we agree with Richler’s stance, one must recognize the importance of Richler’s voice in the Québec community as well as the Jewish community within Canada.
